EARTH DAY YOGA CLASS by Shanti 'Trainer Troy' Cox

Design your own Earth based class or follow this one. If you do not know the postures, do a simple google search. Have fun and ground down today.
What parts of the Earth do you connect to most? Think about the time you have spent in nature: on walks, at the beach, in the forest, etc. Contemplate if you feel more like the sky, an ocean or a volcano today. Or maybe they you like rocks or trees.
Take a moment and see if your Yoga is eco friendly. Do you practice on grass costing water and reseeding time and money? If so can you practice on sand (better for balance). Do you use an eco friendly may or a cheap pollution causing product? People are amazed that I usually do not use a mat. Does your studio do the right thing and hire its teachers as employees so they get full benefits including social security, unemployment and paid time off or do they cheat the system by treating them as independent contractors and not paying taxes that help residents and students?
Make Yoga choices that help the Earth please.
Water: Turtle Pose, Boat Pose
Earth: Child's Pose, Mountain Pose, Tree Pose
Air Ether: Crow Pose, Chandra Namaskar
Fire: Do a bridge flow, rooting us into the earth.
Begin with an "Around the World" variation on Sun Salutations. Switching in the opposite direction completing a circle to switch to the other side. Repeat as many times as you like.
Do a round of dolphin and dolphin plank.
We prepare for our variation on Chandra Namaskar- the Moon Flow,
by stretching in pyramid pose, and transitioning into half moon.
Do a variation on Moon Flow (Google it) 2-4 times.
Now we strengthen and balance with a bird pose, crane or crow (they are not the same).
Our Earth Day journey continues with a grounding tree pose. Try closing one eye or swaying the arms.
We strengthen the back with an insect, locust!
We stretch with another mammal in cow then have a seat and do cow face pose,
and then a final insect, dead bug, before Shavasana.
